The story

A copper boiler tank, polished from the inside, for a beautiful light reflection, oxidized on the outside, mounted on a black steel tripod with wheels. Fully adjustable in height. Lamps: 1 x extra large E40 Edison bulb 100 watts, 220V. (Electrics can be changed to US specs) including wire dimmer. This item is a unique piece and has been redesigned and handmade by Dutch designer Stef van der Bijl.  The lamp comes with a "Certificate of Authenticity", signed by the designer.

Judith Wolberink – owner of Judith Wolberink Gallery – explains you the emergence of the Cookmaster by Stef van der Bijl.

Cookmasters are copper boilers found on the demolition. These boilers have been cut and polished and put on a mount. The rough exterior has emerged from years of oxidation and heating. In the latest series Cookmasters the exterior is polished as well.  The lamps are adjustable in height and give a wonderful light.

Stef van der Bijl is a master at finding and reallocating materials. The shape and the material elicit an idea for a new feature of common industrial objects and utensils. The hidden beauty of things is shown better by their transformation.

Stef van der Bijl is a young Dutch designer whose objects adorn already many home and business. His love for art and old materials are combined with a strong sense of design. He also is a jury member in the BBN program ‘Oud en Nieuw’.
